The Rock is coming back to WWE
The rock has told WWE that he is coming back to fight. The first fight will be John Cena vs The Rock next week.
WWE Raw: What Does Rock's Appearance at 1000th Raw Mean for His Future with WWE?
With the 1000th Raw only a week away, one of the major announcements recently has been the impending return of The Rock to the WWE as one of the many legends scheduled to appear at the historic show.
More interestingly, though, is speculating on what will The Rock have to say since it its pretty much a guarantee he will be making some kind of announcement concerning his future. Or even better to ask, if The Rock isn't making an announcement about his plans himself, how will WWE use his appearance to set up his next match or feud or storyline?
The last time The Rock was on Raw was April 2nd, one night after his WrestleMania victory over John Cena. In his victory/goodbye-for-now speech, he spoke or hinted at where he wants to go next in the WWE. In fact, he claimed he saw himself with the WWE Championship once again. But that's where the vision ended, and we haven't seen him since.
If The Rock indeed is being set up for a WWE Title match in the future, it won't be until WrestleMania so WWE can get the biggest bang for their buck, obviously. But it also makes locking down a match so far in advance more difficult than last year since you would have to have a committed champion all the way up to the April 7 date of the event.
What could be a very likely scenario for next Monday is to have The Rock and Cena pick up where they left off last time since Cena never got his closure after WrestleMania because of Brock Lesnar's surprise appearance.
Invariably whatever respect (whether grudging or sincere) they admit and show toward one another could wither away into another one of their back and forth sessions that involve "leaving" and "fruity pebbles" as well as the fact that Cena has the Money In The Bank Contract.
If Cena goes the upfront avenue of cashing in for SummerSlam, The Rock might very well appear in a guest referee capacity, which could put him in the position to count Cena the winner and new WWE Champion. If Cena holds the belt through WrestleMania next year (which we all know is cringingly possible), The Rock might be looking at a Royal Rumble victory to get his title shot against Cena and complete "the vision."
This is all a heavy amount of speculation that isn't anything new or groundbreaking in trying to forecast the immediate WWE future. But it does have its advantages for the company.
One, you're automatically boosting stock into a SummerSlam card that already has Lesnar wrestling Triple H. You add The Rock even in a non-wrestling capacity, and you could get a boost in buy-ins. (Yes, Survivor Series is evidence to the contrary with The Rock appearing in an in-ring capacity. That is true.)
Two, the Royal Rumble next year will benefit in the same way if The Rock is in the 30-man (or whatever they make the number) battle royal. It automatically makes the Rumble more interesting to watch, and sets up reason three: Rock vs. Cena II at WrestleMania inside MetLife Stadium with the WWE Championship on the line.
That's one perspective. What do you think the future holds for The Rock with the 1000th episode of Raw and beyond?
WWE Monday Night Raw Results from July 16
One night after CM Punk and Sheamus retained their world titles atMoney in the Bank, the 999th edition of Monday Night Raw was held at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas. To open the show, the WWE champion, Punk, was introduced to the WWE Universe.
Punk spoke about how it was in Las Vegas that he unleashed his pipe bomb last year and propelled himself to the top of the sport. Punk said he would be proud to call himself the champion on the 1,000th edition of Raw next week, and was cut off by Big Show. Show said that if he won the Money in the Bank match, he would cash it in and win the title tonight. Punk said Show did what he always does, destroy everything and everyone, but still loses. Show said that after their match, when Punk is knocked out and loses his match, John Cena would cash in his title shot and take away the world title.
WWE Tag Team Championship: R Truth and Kofi Kingston vs. Primetime Players
This was a competitive tag team match that saw A.W. cause a distraction, leading to Kingston and Truth stealing the win and retaining their titles.
Alberto Del Rio vs. Zack Ryder
Del Rio came out without a car after losing his title match to Sheamus. This was a squash match that saw Del Rio attack the arm of Ryder and getting the win with the Cross Arm-Breaker. After the match, Del Rio continued the assault on Ryder, but was interrupted by the music of the returning Rey Mysterio. Mysterio hit the 619 on Del Rio, much to the delight of the fans in Las Vegas.
Heath Slater vs. Rikishi
Rikishi got the quick win after the Yokozuna splash from the middle rope.
Daniel Bryan and Aj vs. Eve and Miz
This was a terrible match that saw Bryan and Aj get the win after Bryan rolled Aj on top of Eve during a small package.
After the match, Bryan proposed to Aj and even placed a ring on her finger. Aj looked confused and began to cry before saying yes.
Jack Swagger vs. Ryback
This just shows how far Swagger has fallen in recent weeks. Ryback went from squashing jobbers to getting a tougher test from a former world champion in what was never actually a match.
Dolph Ziggler In-Ring
Ziggler, the winner of the Smackdown Money in the Bank match came out and talked himself up about his victory at the pay-per-view. Chris Jericho interrupted Ziggler, but the Showoff didn't let the former world champion get a word in. Ziggler wondered when the last time Jericho got a win was and told him all he does is lose.
"You're all hype," Ziggler said. "When was the last time you won an important match?"
Ziggler then wondered if Jericho was losing his touch and caught a Code Breaker for his troubles.
Brodus Clay vs. JTG
I didn't even know JTG was on the WWE roster, but he was and he took on Clay, but was defeated.
CM Punk vs. Big Show
This was easily the best match of the night. Both men had their share of offense throughout, but Show was disqualified for attacking the referee. Show continued his assault on Punk, but before being able to hit the Weapon of Mass Destruction, Cena made the save. Show left the ring, leaving just WWE champion Punk and Mr. Money in the Bank Cena. Cena grabbed a microphone and was about to make an announcement about his title shot, but Show interrupted him. Cena announced that at Raw 1,000, they would meet in the center of the ring to determine who the best in the world truly is.
WWE Money in the Bank 2012 Results: Live Coverage and Updates
The time has come for what could be considered a "Big Five" pay-per-view—if there were such a thing. WWE Money in the Bank is here and by the end of the night two new (pretty much) guaranteed future world champions will be crowned, while the two major championships will also be on the line.
Here are my predictions for tonight's pay-per-view:
Tag Team Match: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth over Hunico and Camacho
World Championship Money in the Bank Match: Dolph Ziggler def. Cody Rhodes, Christian, Santino Marella, Damien Sandow, Tensai, Tyson Kidd and Sin Cara
World Championship Match: Sheamus over Alberto Del Rio
WWE Championship Match: Daniel Bryan over CM Punk
